A new beginning after the mud: we build 50 safe houses in Mozambique

Mozambique is going through one of the most dramatic times in its recent history. Torrential rains and flooding of major rivers have turned entire villages into mudflats. The families we need to help have lost everything, but they have a chance: plots of land in safe, elevated areas allocated by the government.

They have the land, but they no longer have anything to build with.

Returning to where they lived before is impossible: the water danger is constant, and staying would mean living in fear of the next flood.

The official figures for this early 2026 are dramatic:

800,000 people affected

Nearly one million lives swept away by water

74,000 homes destroyed

Thousands of families no longer have a roof over their heads

health alert and cholera outbreaks

Lack of drinking water and sanitation facilities

In addition to housing, the entire support network has collapsed: 353 schools are uninhabitable, leaving thousands of children without a future, and 229 health centers have been damaged.

It is a race against time!

We need to raise 125,000 euros to build 50 homes-it is not just an act of generosity, it is an urgent health intervention to save lives.

Without a safe home to shelter and care for themselves, families are exposed to an unprecedented health risk. Building these homes, with their own private bathrooms, means giving people a protected place to start over.

Help us reach the goal and donate the house to 50 families!

So far we have raised 2,500 euros and can build 1 house.

This is what the houses we will build will look like!

Your support is critical

Help these families! With 2,500 euros we can make a house consisting of:

a small room for communal living and meals;
– a bedroom to provide privacy and protected rest;
– a private bathroom, essential for hygiene and to stop the spread of disease.

For these families, the house is: security forever because it will stand on stable land; health, because a dry environment and a private bathroom protect especially children and the elderly from diseases related to moisture and poor hygiene; and dignity because being able to lock a door gives people back control over their lives.

A roof for Dona Ester: where hunger meets hope

There are wounds that water cannot wash away. For Dona Ester, a mother of three abandoned by her husband years ago, the flood in Mozambique didn’t just tear down the walls of a hut; it wiped out the only means of survival she had left: her small rice field.
Today Ester looks at her children and faces the most heinous challenge for a parent: hunger. With no crops and no home, every day is a struggle against time and weakness.

Of the three children, little Joao is the one of greatest concern. Malnutrition and deprivation in recent months have made him fragile, silent, and too tired to play. In a context where everything is lacking, even a simple cold can become a threat to such a tried child.
Ester is not asking for miracles, she is just asking for a fresh start. She asks for a dry house where Joao can sleep safely and for land to go back to farming so she no longer has to tell her children that “no food today.”

What happens if we don't take action

Without our support, these people will be trapped in limbo:

Eternal emergency: families camped under plastic sheeting for years, totally dependent on outside humanitarian aid.

Desperate choices: driven by hunger and cold, many would return to build huts in dangerous flood zones, risking being swept away by the next flood.

Trauma of toddlers: without a stable home, children would not be able to return to school and have a normal routine, remaining captive to the shock caused by the disaster.
